
Dr. Taisto Sarkola is a pediatrician, pediatric cardiologist, and fetal cardiologist located at the New Children’s Hospital, Helsinki University Hospital, Finland. He is a senior investigator, and his research group is affiliated with Minerva foundation institute for medical research in Helsinki. Following his graduation as MD in 1998 and Doctoral dissertation of Medical Sciences in 2001 at the University of Helsinki, he was certified as a specialist in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology in 2007 in Helsinki, Finland. Between 2008-2010 he performed a combined clinical and research subspeciality fellowship in echocardiography and fetal echocardiography at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. He was appointed Docent in Pediatrics at Helsinki University in 2012. He has supervised several MD master’s and five PhD-students Thesis to completion. He has a long-term track of medical student, pediatric resident, pediatric cardiology core fellow, and fetal cardiology subspeciality fellow supervision and mentoring. He is chair of the AEPC Fetal Cardiology working group 2024-2027. He is Editor of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology -journal (ISUOG) 2024-2027 covering fetal cardiology. He is a founding member of the Scandiatransplant Pediatric Heart and Lung Group. His main research interests include fetal cardiology, non-invasive cardiovascular ultrasound imaging, and preventive cardiology.
