
Sheena has been the Lead Nurse for the CHD Network for nine years.
She has been involved in setting up the Network and developing the nursing, clinical and education resources for the Network website www.swswchd.co.uk
She has maintained her clinical practice as an adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) clinical nurse specialist until this year. Sheena set up the nursing service in 2002 prior to this her background was in cardiac intensive care. She has led the ACHD team in The Bristol Heart Institute and run annual ACHD training days and other education events for nurses and allied health professionals. She has developed transition services, undertaken advanced care clinics and worked to support patients with additional needs with ACHD.
Sheena was inspired to push forward the Youth Worker role within the ACHD service and has been committed to embedding the youth worker role into to the ACHD service across South Wales and the Southwest of England.
She has an MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice, presents regularly at meetings, and has published in The Journal of Cardiac Nursing. She was member of the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care Council in 2009 and was involved in developing the 2006 Commissioning Guide for Services for Young People and Grown-ups with Congenital Heart Disease. She was voted president of the British Adult Congenital Cardiac Nurses Association (BACCNA) for five years.
Sheena represented the Royal College of nursing on the Clinical Advisory Group the Congenital Heart Disease Standards & Specification completed in 2016. She participated in The Royal College of Nursing group with produced the RCN Competencies for ACHD Nursing in 2016 and more recently in 2025.
Raising the profile of the CHD Network and supporting centres across South Wales and Southwest to ensure a high standard of equitable care is delivered across the region, is a key part of her current role.
