I am an Interventional Pediatric Cardiologist at the IWK Health Centre and an Associate Professor at Dalhousie University. Throughout my 30 years of experience in interventional cardiology, my primary focus has been caring for children with complex congenital heart disease and supporting their families. I have also developed a physics-informed deep learning artificial intelligence model designed to evaluate pediatric heart murmurs. The AI can provide reliable, objective decision support for primary care providers by separating innocent murmurs from pathology. Alongside this technical development, I examine the broader health economics of digital triage. Ultimately, my goal is to safely reduce unnecessary specialist referrals, easing the financial and logistical burdens on healthcare systems so high-quality pediatric cardiac care will be more accessible to everyone.
