Dr. Stefano Pezzato is a pediatric critical care attending physician in the Division of Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care at IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini Children’s Hospital in Genoa, Italy, where he provides both pediatric and cardiac intensive care to infants and children with complex medical and surgical conditions. He is a member of the Critical Care and ECMO Transport Team at a national referral center and serves as Lead of the Advanced Neuromonitoring Program, supporting the implementation of advanced physiological monitoring in high-risk patients.
His clinical and research interests lie at the intersection of neurocritical care and cardiac critical care, with a particular focus on multimodal neuromonitoring and cerebral autoregulation in critically ill infants and children, including those supported with ECMO. His work aims to integrate high-resolution physiological data with bedside clinical decision-making to develop individualized, physiology-guided critical care strategies that aim to improve neurological outcomes.
Dr. Pezzato joined Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, between 2023 and 2025 as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery. He was subsequently selected as a CobiCure Fellow for MedTech Innovation at the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, within the FDA-funded Alliance for Pediatric Device Innovation, where he further developed interests in pediatric device innovation and translational critical care technologies.
